The Journey is a simulation activity that takes you from your 'comfort zone' and deposits you in a foreign land where no one speaks your language, no one does things the way you do and no one thinks the way you think. You can experience first hand the steps people take in preparing for cross cultural overseas mission service and what it's like when they first arrive, without leaving your own locality.
Over the years, the Journey has deeply challenged many people. Some are now serving God overseas and others are preparing to go. Whole churches have been impacted. Awareness of the world of missions has increased, as has prayer and financial support. What you will experience:The Journey is 5 hours of fast-paced, hands-on action. Experience what it's like to become involved in missions - receive God's call, have it confirmed by your local church, apply to a mission agency, get some training and then your passport and visa. Have a commissioning service at your church, purchase your plane tickets and then you're off. Once you navigate immigration and customs you're surrounded by the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of another culture. You'll meet interesting people, real people from an African, Asian or other culture. You'll even learn a few words of their language. The Journey experience will help your group:
Comments from Participants"Getting to the field - that was definitely the highlight. Discovering the reality of these people from other cultures touched me deeply. For me, the JOURNEY was a trip to the centre of Christ's heart." "I learned (I was) totally unaware of the finance required to be able to be totally prepared for missionary service. That we are all called to go out and be missionaries. That communication and working within a team is very important." "I learned a bit about how to accept other cultures and languages rather than seeing them as weird because they are not what I am used to. I also realised that overseas missionary work would definitely not be an easy job." Participants made decisions to:- Pray more for those involved in missions. - Work harder at their work so that they are prepared for however the Lord may use them. - Get to know the Bible more thoroughly. - Be more conscious of the need to be even more prayerful (for missions) and frequent in communication and make more time and effort to encourage mission interest in their churches. - Enquire about cross-cultural ministry - the is one of the best preparations for it - Exposure to different mission organisations and opportunities Get your group on board! Take them on a Journey that will enrich their lives and ministry. |
