Many 19th century scholars believed the Bible, but in the 20th century scholars became sceptical because of the effects on their worldview of the Enlightenment. But in late 20th century many scholars are returning to a trust in the Bible as a historically reliable book.
“Archeology has in many cases refuted the views of modern critics. It has shown in a number of instances that these views rest on false assumptions and unreal, artificial schemes of historical development . . . . The excessive skepticism of many liberal theologians stems not from a careful evaluation of the available data, but from an enormous predisposition against the supernatural.” Professor Millar Burrows - Head of Archeology Dept, Yale University. “What often proves most decisive to individual scholars are their own philosophical presuppositions concerning the possibility of predictive prophecy. If it cannot be true that the prophets of old were men moved by the Spirit who spoke from God then another explanation must be in order.” Jeffrey Sheler - senior writer for US News & World Report (Author of Is the Bible True?)
