Stories: Jesus told stories throughout his ministry to help people understand the most important things in life. Some of his stories were very somber, others quite metaphorical, and others rather silly. These stories, like all of the stories of God, reflect various aspects of His character. You may find some too somber for your taste and others may seem a little silly. While we chose them to give you a better understanding of the work of Bible translation and a greater love for the people involved in this work from all over the world, our first goal is to honor God.

Reflections on a Lighthouse |
|
I recently watched the BBC series, Seven Wonders of the Industrial World (which I highly recommend). One particular story of the construction of the Bell Rock Lighthouse resonated with me and with Wycliffe's goal of getting the Bible into the languages of the world. Psalm 119:105 says "thy Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" but many cultures, people groups and languages of the world are still walking around in the dark, their lives and eternities being wrecked by jaggered rocks hidden below the waves that could have been avoided if only they were seen.

It was translated by a team of Konkomba people, supervised by Mary Steele MBE, who works with our Ghanaian partner organisation GILLBT. This remarkable spiritual response resulted from the use of the Scriptures in print and on cassette, the Jesus Film and the literacy programme. |

“I grew up in a home that trusted our ancestors for our care and protection. When difficulties arose, my father made a sacrifice to the gods, that peace might be restored. When I came to Christ, I turned away from my old family beliefs in ancestors." |

The Missionary that never sleeps! |

By Sue Montag My husband Dick and I were Bible Translators with the Cashinahua in Peru from 1969 to 1981. Almost as soon as we got off the plane on our first trip there, Mario (the only believer in the group), told us he had been promised by our predecessors that we would help him to become a bilingual school teacher. |
